I am always trying to get more protein intake in a day. It keeps me full, helps cravings, and generally makes me feel good. I don’t get carby mood swings and sugar fluctuations. That said, I’m also lazy. I used to drink EAS Advantage low carb shakes. They got expensive, and frankly tasted pretty similar to a Slim Fast shake. I’m sure y’all remember those. Chalky chocolate goodness – in a pinch.
I am the proud owner of two HUGE tubs of protein powder. One is Kaizen Vanilla Ice cream flavor, and the other is Trutein Cinnamon flavor. In my quest to make something palatable, I came up with the following:
Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake
1 cup 1% milk (or almond milk, soy milk, skim milk) I use 1% or skim for the protein content (102 calories for 1%, 90 calories for skim, 8-9 grams of protein)
1/4 to a 1/3 cup of pumpkin (raw pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling) (27 calories)
4-6 Ice cubes depending on how thick you want it
1 scoop of protein powder (mine ranges form 100-150 calories per scoop)
cool whip/whipped cream (optional) 40 calories 4 TBSP
Total: 294 calories, 39 Grams of protein
I’ll get adventurous and try another recipe soon, but I’m stuck on pumpkin pie for breakfast right now. 🙂
